PRIVATE DETECTIVE

I’m soaking wet! I have to be careful not to damage my laptop. We’ve just returned to Finca Tatin from Rio Dulce village, Guatemala with Jorge and Gaby in our lovely motor boat.

We left Rio at 4pm, the sky was cloudy, and surely 5 minutes into our journey the lightning and thunders started. Oh oh! A couple of minutes after, a drizzle started.

We were going really fast but soon enough, were forced to slow down the boat, as the picture changed radically: Sky covered with dark clouds, heavy rain, big waves, dense fog and strong winds.  The elements were doing their best to blind and hurt us. The constant heavy drops of rain plus the speed of the boat felt like we were being hit with peddles. We couldn’t see anything apart from the waves and the heavy rain, but we pressed on into the river.

Jorge, the boat captain has been on these waters since a wee boy so we trusted that he knew the way home. Finally, like an hour after, the rain stopped and we were able to find our way. Jorge was saying that the whole episode was too dangerous, because we could have got really lost or hit by a drifting wood log or something similar.

Anyway, we got back safe and sound so no harm done. Carlos was waiting for us at the Finca Tatin’s pier. He asked about our robbery investigation.

Someone stole two mobile phones. Gaby left them on the reception last night and they were no longer there this morning. I rang the numbers and one lady answered. She said that the phone belonged to one of the worker of the Finca. I asked “Which Finca?” “Finca Murcielago!” - was the answer.

We checked and found out that the Finca Murcielago was near Rio Dulce village. Our plan consisted in going there to speak with the owner or the manager and try to find who stole the phones.

One of our workers, Jorge, had to go there to buy groceries so Gaby and I joined him on the motor boat. In Rio we spent 15 min on the internet, bought the groceries, called Yaqui in Guatemala City and took a taxi to Finca Murcielago. The place is a ranch full of Banana trees so it was kinda difficult to find the main house but we succeeded.

We spoke with a kid, who gave us the phone number for the manager. We called him, and were told that he was in Rio so we went to meet him. The Ranch manager promised us that he would have a meeting with all employees and find out if anyone had the phone. “We’ve done our job. – I said to Gaby – We can only wait now.”

Rio Dulce is a very ugly town with a busy street but a fried chicken stall called our attention. It smelled so good that we had to get some chicken for us. We finished our lunch with a delicious ice-cream. Yummy.

Hopped on the boat and Jorge said “Look at those clouds, looks like it’s going to rain!”

Ciao 4 now
